Zero Gravity

Portuguese footballer, Luís Figo, floats mid-air in his red and white football kit with hands raised. A minature football match is in full action behind him. The players also appear to be floating in mid air.

Find out how FP7 McCann delivered an 'Out-of-this-world' campaign for Mastercard featuring soccer legend Luis Figo.
What we did

Football is more than just a game – it’s a celebration of the human spirit, igniting passion and pride for millions every day. To celebrate connecting people to their passions, Mastercard wanted to create an out-of-this-world experience that took the beautiful game of football to extraordinary new heights.

We helped Mastercard set a new Guinness World Record for the ‘Highest Altitude Game of Football on a Parabolic Flight’ and the first-ever zero-gravity football game featuring soccer legend Luis Figo and an international team of players.

How we did it

The campaign features 7 football fans recruited from all over the world, and from different walks of life, who together take part in a unique football experience with the sports legend Luis Figo.

Two diverse teams were created to conquer the Guinness World Record for the highest football match ever played on a parabolic flight (in Zero gravity at 20,000+ ft) on a specially curated 20-metre-long pitch.

Special material was sourced for the turf, the goalposts and even the clothes that would work in zero gravity and not be inflammable.

Shooting in zero gravity was a unique challenge. It meant finding the right plane, getting the talents to accept flying and playing at the same time, as well as the production challenge of  floating the cameras around while trying to capture amazing content.

Craft Worldwide

It was thought impossible to have a football game continue throughout the flight with hyper-gravity, zero gravity, and double gravity.

Making History with a Guinness World Record

Gameplay was planned to perfection to enable us to capture the stunt in limited parabolas, on one flight, without having cameras flying everywhere or interrupting the game.

Experts positioned the cameras at the right spots, and there were multiple camera operators on the sidelines.

A Guinness World Record representative and two timekeepers were also on board to record what was the first event of its kind captured in just one, continuous flight.
